Let me tell you a story about my wife’s, Anna, journey. She’s a mother of 2 beautiful daughters (1 and 3 years old), works full time, and has struggled with the way she feels about how her body looks.
This has been something she struggled since I’ve known her. In February 2019, our first daughter (Ava) was a stillborn. It was a very difficult season of life for us.
In September 2020, Aaliyah was born. Aaliyah’s first year went spent a significant amount of time in the hospital for various reasons.
In June 2022, Ari was born. Ari didn’t sleep through the night for about her first 7 months.
After each pregnancy, Anna confidence was low and she made effort to change her body. It was a struggle, yet she continued to put the work in.
This year is when the ‘mom guilt’ hit her pretty hard. In January, she came to me and asked me to help hold her accountable to training at least 3 days a week and on her nutrition.
Over the years of being together she has tried Herbal Life shakes, counting calories, counting macros, plate method, and tracking portion.
‘Mom guilt’ started in the spring. She felt guilty because she was bringing our daughters to the facility while she trained or picked them up from daycare a little later than normal. She felt like she wasn’t spending enough time with them.
She overcame this by accepting that prioritizing herself first is also prioritizing our daughters too. They need a a strong, positive, and confident mother that is the example for them. To the point that Aaliyah went to the facility with her at 6am this morning.
Since January, Anna has been diligent in tracking her portions. Is she 100%, no she’s actually around 80%. Does she drink wine and beer? Yes. Does she eat Chick-fil-A? Yes. Does she eat pizza, candy, pretzels, chips, etc? Yes.
She has all the things she enjoys just in moderation. She lives life all while making it a lifestyle that’s sustainable for the long term.
She’s the most confident I’ve seen her be. She’s wearing clothes she hasn’t worn in 4 years. She’s the strongest she’s ever been, has better mobility, and loves the person she sees in the mirror.
She also has a better relationship with food and a more positive outlook on how she views her body.
Since January she is down 14.2lbs of fat, 9.9lbs overall weight, 5.4% body fat. She has increased her muscle mass 2.7lbs and lean body mass 4.3lbs.
