Women often have many responsibilities and demands on their time, making it easy to put their own health and fitness on the back burner. I have trained over a thousand women in my 10 years+ as a personal trainer and coach. However, it’s important to remember that our health and well-being should be a top priority, especially as we get older.
Starting a workout routine can be especially daunting for women over 35. Your body may not be as resilient as they once were, and you may feel self-conscious about returning to the gym after a long absence. But it’s important to remember that it’s never too late to start taking care of yourself.
Here are a few tips to help you get motivated to start working out as a woman over 35:
Set realistic goals
As we age, our bodies change and it may not be realistic to expect to look or perform the same way we did in our 20s. Set goals that are achievable and focus on improving your overall health and well-being.
Make a plan
Decide on a workout routine and schedule that works for you. This could be a specific time of day or a set number of days per week. Make sure you are consistent with your schedule.
Find a workout partner
Having a friend to exercise with can be a great way to stay motivated. Not only will you have someone to hold you accountable, but working out with a friend can also make the experience more enjoyable.
Start slow
If you haven’t exercised in a while, it’s important to start slow and gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts. This will help prevent injury and ensure that you are able to stick with it long-term.
Be kind to yourself
Remember that it’s normal to have good days and bad days. Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a workout or don’t reach a goal. Be kind to yourself and remember that the important thing is to keep moving forward.
Women over 35 have the unique opportunity to set an example for the next generation of women. By taking care of themselves and prioritizing their health and fitness, they can show them the importance of self-care and self-love. With time, consistency and patience, they can achieve their fitness goals and feel better in their own skin.
